STATPOP provides the permanent resident population, its age structure, and the number and size of households, for every Swiss municipality and per hectare. It is the basis of any catchment-area calculation.
The number of households matters as much as the number of inhabitants: since consumption statistics are compiled per household, it is the household count that converts a population into a theoretical market. A municipality of 10,000 inhabitants and a municipality of 10,000 inhabitants living in smaller households do not represent the same number of baskets.
