Business survival rate

The proportion of companies still active three or five years after being founded, published by sector of activity.

Business demography statistics follow each cohort of new companies and measure how many units remain at the following milestones. The differences between sectors are considerable, and catering is structurally among the most exposed activities.

It is the base rate against which every business plan should explicitly compare itself. A founder who knows the survival rate of their sector argues what, in their project, justifies sitting above it. One who ignores it reasons as though the risk did not exist.
